At Today Care Services, we believe that care should never feel like confinement. That’s why we’re proud to be the first home care provider in South Gloucestershire to introduce a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), a service that allows our clients not only to receive outstanding care at home but also to get out and enjoy life beyond four walls.
What is a WAV and Why Does it Matter?

A Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) is specially designed to transport individuals who use wheelchairs without the need for uncomfortable or unsafe transfers. Until now, many people receiving home care in South Gloucestershire have felt stuck, unable to attend appointments, visit loved ones, or even pop to the shops without complicated arrangements.
We’re changing that.
With our dedicated WAV service, Today Care clients can now:
Attend GP, hospital, or therapy appointments with a trusted carer by their side
Visit friends or family they’ve not seen in a while
Go to the park, the library, a community group, or just for a drive
Enjoy the kind of freedom that makes life feel full again
Who Can Use This Service?
This wheelchair accessible care is available to anyone receiving care from Today Care Services, whether you need occasional support or have a regular care package. There’s no need to book a separate transport company, no extra hassle, and no loss of dignity. Just one team, one trusted service, and complete support.
Why We’re Doing This
We’ve seen firsthand how isolating it can feel when mobility becomes a barrier to the outside world. That’s why we’re investing in solutions that bridge the gap between care and quality of life.
Our mission has always been about more than ticking boxes. We support people to live well,
and that includes leaving the house safely, confidently, and joyfully.
Frequently Asked Questions: Wheelchair Accessible Care in South Gloucestershire
Q: Who can use the wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV)?
A: The WAV is available to all Today Care clients who require transport support, whether you’re receiving regular personal care, companionship visits, or one-off assistance.
Q: Is the transport included in my care package?
A: Yes, the use of the WAV can be included as part of your care plan, depending on your needs. It’s not a taxi service; you're not paying for the vehicle but for the time and support of your carer. The rate may be slightly higher to reflect this, but you’re receiving fully supported care, not just a lift.
Q: How is this different from a taxi or community transport service?
A: Unlike door-to-door or WAV taxi services, with Today Care you’ll also have a lovely carer by your side helping you prepare, accompanying you to your appointment or outing, and staying with you if needed. It’s about confidence, dignity, and support, not just getting from A to B.
Q: Do I need to transfer out of my wheelchair?
A: No. Our WAV is designed so that you can stay in your wheelchair, safely secured for the journey; no lifting or unnecessary transfers are required.
Q: What kind of outings can I use it for?
A: Anything that helps you stay connected and independent: GP or hospital visits, shopping, hairdressers, community events, or simply visiting friends or family.
Q: What areas do you cover?
A: We support people across South Gloucestershire, including Frampton Cotterell, Yate, Thornbury, Bradley Stoke, Winterbourne, and nearby villages.
Q: How do I get started?
A: Just get in touch with our friendly team to book a free consultation. We’ll talk through your needs and tailor your care package, including any transport support, to suit you.
